A chilled autumn day

When wrapped up on a stoop

Is the most perfect place

For a warm pumpkin soup

The skeletons and ghosts

Await with elation

As their small furry host

Stirs his pumpkin creation

The field mouse prepares

His small wooden bowls

For the undead to feast

Warming bones and souls

As they finish their supper

And say their goodbyes

They give thanks to the field mouse

Awaiting tomorrow’s pumpkin pie
